ProVision Communications has announced the launch of ProSite, an advanced software planning tool for optimising critical aspects of a wireless network configuration in order to combine lowest cost with maximum performance. ProSite enables network operators, systems integrators and OEMs to select the most effective sites and parameters for their WiMAX or LTE base stations, not only considering technical parameters, but also taking into account commercial and other cost constraints. Some of the factors considered in the optimisation include site acquisition costs, service revenues, site rental and maintenance costs, user distributions, data traffic and backhaul capacity.

ProSite enables the accurate dimensioning of a WiMAX or LTE network during pre-deployment planning and when establishing a new service business case. This can produce a significant reduction in the number of basestations required to provide a particular level of coverage and service – up to 20% fewer – and also enables a more efficient network deployment process. Network interference is minimised, while data throughput per user can be increased by up to 30%. Optimising a network with ProSite reduces the need for post-deployment corrections, and also lowers CAPEX and OPEX relating to network planning, resulting in increased competitiveness and profitability for the operator.

ProSite had been a consultancy-only tool before this launch edition of the software. It has been used in the field in recent years alongside ProPhecy, ProVision's RF modelling tool suite, but can be used in conjunction with other RF planning tools. Based on the data from the prediction modelling tool, ProSite computes and displays the optimal layout of basestations in a given area, minimising CAPEX and OPEX. At the same time it balances complex interdependencies between different parameters, allowing for best possible data throughput in a given site area, with a resulting increase in quality of service (QoS) and revenues. ProSite's intuitive interface and ease of use allow the planner to optimise the network topology easily and rapidly, speeding the path to deployment.
